After MPs and MLAs, it is the time for councillors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to ask for a hike in their pay. The chairman of Works Committee Jagdish Mamgain has urged the Lieutenant Governor (L.G.) Tejender Khanna to make provision of pay and allowances to the Municipal Councillors.

In a letter written to L.G., Mamgin has said that Member of Parliament (M.P.) have raised their Pay and allowances to two lacs rupees per month while the Member of Delhi Assembly (MLA) raised up to one Lac rupees per month. Then why Municipal Councillors are ignored.

MCD councillors, right now, get 300 rupees per meeting. And because only 3 to 4 meetings are held per month, Mamgin said, councillors are able to earn 900-1200 rupees per month. He has also  said that councillors are unable to accommodate their office expenses, stationary, computer, vehicle and staff expenses, within this amount. And if continued like this, it could never nail the corruption.

He has asked the L.G. to sanction Rs. 30,000 per month as salary to Councillors and to increase the meeting allowance from Rs 300 to 1000. Also, he has asked for reimbursement for medical expenses up to 50,000 rupees per year for councillors.
