MHA clears proposal to install 6,000 CCTV cameras all over the city

The entire national capital will soon be under the hawk’s eye. As per an ambitious plan cleared recently by the ministry of home affairs, more than 6,000 CCTV cameras will be installed all over Delhi in the coming few months to keep a tab on the terror and criminal activities here. More importantly, the cameras will help check the crime against women.

As per the information available, more than 1,300 CCTV cameras have already been installed. Of these 300 CCTV cameras have begun working as well. The ministry of home affairs has directed the Delhi Police to complete installation and make them functional within the next few months.

The phase I, i.e., installation of 1,046 CCTV cameras at 25 markets and four border checkposts, has already been completed.

Under the next phase II, 3,973 CCTV cameras will be installed at important places, like the supreme court, Delhi high court, Six district courts in Delhi, the L-G house, V-P house, markets and border checkposts. Besides, Delhi Police has also identified 315 locations for installation of CCTV systems in Delhi.

The details of CCTV cameras installed by Delhi Police are as under:

1.  Lajpat Nagar market (30 cameras)
2.  Sarojini Nagar market (25 cameras)
3.  Khan market (24 cameras)
4.  Ashok Vihar market (16 cameras)
5.  Rani Bagh market (20 cameras)
6.  Maurice Nagar university campus (46 cameras)
7.  Sadar Bazar market (24 cameras)
8.  Chandni Chowk market (23 cameras)
9.  Vasant Vihar market (38 cameras)
10. Ghazipur border checkpost (18 cameras)
