Delhi Value Added Tax (Amendment) Act, 2011 passed in Vidhan Sabha

The amendment has been used to clear the pending appeals by various traders

With more than 7,500 appeals by various traders still pending with Delhi government, the Delhi Vidhan Sabha on Monday passed the Delhi Value Added Tax (Amendment) Act, 2011.

The amendment was required to extend the time frame till March 31, 2012 to resolve the pending appeals relating to the period prior to the enforcement of the Delhi Value Added Tax Act (DVAT).

The DVAT Act came into force in 2005 in Delhi. This envisaged disposal of all pending appeals within next five years. However, the period was extended from 2010-11 for disposal of pending cases. With adoption of the DVAT (Amendment) Act, 2011 the period stands extended from April 2011 to March, 2012.
