Himachal Verdict 2017: Game of alternation

Himachal test of BJP's confidence in its growing influence

GN Bureau | December 18, 2017

#assembly elections   #Congress   #BJP   #Himachal Pradesh

The neck-to-neck run of the Congress and the BJP so far, as figures of leads come in from Himachal Pradesh, may sharpen the appetite of punters betting on an upsetting of the alternation game in the mountain state. Since 1990, the state has been switching between the Congress and the BJP (except for a year's spell of president's rule in 1992-93). Like Kerala, where the UDF and LDF have over the decades won in alternation. Any upsetting of that steady rhythm in Himachal might be reason for the BJP to rethink its confidence about its growing influence across the country.
