India, Pakistan agree to cease fire

Two DGMOs will talk again on Monday

India and Pakistan have agreed to de-escalate the military action, according to an official announcement Saturday evening.

The two countries have decided to stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 Hours IST on May 10, 2025, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a special briefing.

The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan called the DGMO of India at 1535 hours IST earlier in the day. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today, according to the statement.

Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to the understanding. The DGMOs will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours, the statement said.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on his X handle, "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so."
