Govt disburses Rs 2.19 crore among the next of kin of KPs killed by militants

Jammu and Kashmir government has disbursed Rs 2.19 crores to the next of kin of Kashmiri Pandits killed in militancy in the Valley, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.

An ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh has been paid to each family whose members were killed in the Valley since 1989, minister for revenue, relief and rehabilitation Raman Bhalla said in a reply to a question.

He said that 219 Kashmiri Pandits were killed during the turmoil in the Valley since 1989

"Besides, Rs 39.64 crore has been paid as compensation to them for repair of property damaged due to militancy," he said.

"A total number of 808 such families consisting of 3,445 members are presently living in the Valley," he said, adding that 17 temples are also being provided protection by security forces in the Valley.

In reply to another question, the minister said that a total of 2,168 muslim families have been registered as migrants, out of which 1,756 families have been registered since January 1996.

An amount of Rs 71.95 crore has been spent for providing relief and other facilities to migrants during 2007-08, Rs 70.33 crores during 2008-09 and Rs 68.59 crores during 2009-10 upto January 1, he added.

Around 200 flats at an estimated cost of Rs 22.90 crores are being constructed at Sheikhpora in Budgam district,according to the minister.
