Both houses of Bihar Legislature were adjourned till lunch amid pandemonium created by ruling NDA and opposition members to counter each others over the Patna High Court order for an inquiry by CBI into alleged irregularities in execution of development schemes.

Patna High Court had on July 15 ordered a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities of Rs 11,412 crore in execution of development and welfare schemes between 2002-03 and 2007-08.

While RJD was in power between 2002-05, Nitish Kumar replaced the Rabri Devi Ministry on November 24, 2005.

As the state assembly sat for the day, waving placards, banners and news clippings, opposition MLAs including RJD-LJP combine, Congress and left parties stormed into the well of the house demanding immediate resignation of Nitish Kumar government in the light of the CBI inquiry.

As they continued shouting, the ruling NDA MLAs outnumbered them in the well demanding immediate resignation of the Congress-led government at the Centre for its failure to check escalating prices of essential commoddities.

As his repeated requests to the agitating members to return to their seats fell on deaf years, the Speaker U N Choudhary adjourned the house till 1200 hours hardly five minutes after it assembled.

In the second phase, Choudhary accepted a notice by Lal Babu Rai (Independent) who sought a debate on the CAG report that formed the basis for the order of inquiry by CBI and cited precedence. As the din continued unabated, the Speaker adjourned the house till lunch.

Both the parties orchestrated similar scenes in the state legislative council on the issue and Chairman T K Jha adjourned the house till 2.30 pm.
