Senior bureaucrat Pradeep Shukla, one of the prime accused in the national rural health scam, may soon be arrested by the central bureau of investigation, an official of the probe agency told Governance Now. CBI is also likely to summon senior IAS officer Navneet Sehgal for questioning in its investigation of the scam.

Bringing Sehgal, a close aide of the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Maywati, under the scanner in the case will also raise the chances of a probe of the chief minister’s role, if there is any, in the scam. Sehgal had served as her principal secretary.

Despite the latest summon from CBI, former family welfare secretary Shukla has not appeared before the agency pleading sickness. The probe agency is tracking his health, and if necessary, will issue a warrant against him.

On January 19, the CBI had raided the premises of Shukla and five other former and present government officials in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
