Nagaland, Tripura, Mehalaya will go to polls in March

EC beings preparations for elections in the three states

The Election Commission on Monday started to prepare for elections in the three northeastern states -- Nagaland, Tripura and Mehalaya in the first week of March 2013.

As it takes three to four months to prepare for a state poll, the EC will commence the process for holding polls in northeastern states, said a highly placed source in Nirvachan Sadan.

Internal meetings have begun. Nagaland assembly term ends on March 20, 2013, Tripura’s will end in March 16 while Mehalaya state assembly has tenure up to March 10.

In all probabilities, counting in the three states would be over by March 7. So polls would be held in the last week of February and first week of March.
