The principal adviser of the planning commission, Pronab Sen, has said that a GDP growth rate of 8.5 percent is looking feasible for this year (2010-11). The economy registered a GDP growth of 8.9 percent in the last quarter. “Sustaining 8.9 will be a problem,” Sen said at the sidelines of a conference in New Delhi.

Talking about different sectors, he said, “Agricultural growth looks good (this year) relative to last year.” Sen said this year’s growth in agriculture had restored the loss of the last year. He said also said that food inflation would remain at 8 – 8.5 percent.

Earlier on the same day, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had said that GDP growth this fiscal year would exceed 8.75 percent.
