Arunachal Pradesh has failed to complete many road projects under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana in the past five years, according to an official report.

According to the report by the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee appointed by the state government, the Arunachal Rural Road Development Agency (ARRDA) executing the PMGSY roads in the state should have completed them within nine months from the date of issue of the work order.

The work, in no case should exceed 12 calender months in case of monsoon or other seasonal factors, it said.

Though the reason for the delay in the work was not yet known, the committee has decided to take up a state-wide site inspection programme, beginning with Papum Pare district from September 2 to 4.

According to the committee, there were 216 on-going road projects under PMGSY in the state.

As per the list, Tirap district was the worst sufferer with 35 on-going road projects under PMGSY, while the least was Dibang Valley, Upper Siang and Papum Pare districts with two projects each.

West Siang district was in second place with 30 projects, followed by Tawang (23), Changlang and West Kameng districts (21 each), Lohit (20), East Kameng (12), Upper Subansiri (10), Lower Dibang Valley (nine), East Siang, Lower Subansiri and Kurung Kumey (eight each) and Anjaw (five projects).
