4Gid to take care of immigration system

Biometrics firm to provide identity solutions under MMP of NeGP

GN Bureau | September 6, 2012

Indian government has selected biometrics firm 4G Identity Solutions (4Gid) to supply, install and integrate biometric technology for the country's Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) system.

The biometric system integrated with IVFRT will enable the travellers to enrol their biometric and thus will help in subsequent verification of their identity at different immigration check points. Hence, it will enable effective identification of travellers.

4Gid will supply 4-4-2 fingerprint devices, single fingerprint devices, SDKs for enrolment, segmentation, quality checking and a Minex Compliant algorithm for minutia based matching.

India's National Informatics Centre (NIC, part of DeitY) invited bids for the project in March 2012. According to 4G, it was selected after stringent technical and financial evaluations.

The IVFRT Project is one of the Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) under the National e-Governance Project (NeGP) operated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The core objective this system is to develop and implement a safe, secure and integrated service delivery framework that strengthens security and facilitates legitimate travellers to travel smoothly.
