With the two latest pilot projects running in Mysore and Hyderabad, there are more projects that are in the offing from the unique identification authority of India (UIDAI) till the authority is under the process to review the enrollment of 20 crore residents in the country.

“We certainly have more pilots that are going to be made official soon but we can’t talk about them at the current juncture,” said an official who is not authorised to talk to media. These projects will be made public in a few days.

The authority has begun a pilot project in Mysore which will help the residents obtain an LPG connection using his or her Aadhar number. According to the UIDAI website around 13,29, 44, 649 aadhar numbers have been issued.

Likewise, in Hyderabad, the authority is running a pilot project which will verify the residents customer’s identity for getting mobile connections.

Nandan Nilekani, chairman, UIDAI at a conference in Mumbai had said, “The pilots will allow public sector oil marketers to make LPG transfers as well as getting mobile connectivity easier and transparent for consumers.”

With a recent compromise between the registrar general of India (RGI) and UIDAI on who will do the enrollments countrywide, the UIDAI has the mandate to enroll 40 crore more residents in the areas where RGI does not have the mandate.

Nilekani also mentioned that apart from the enrollments the UIDAI is now going to focus on building applications which will be useful for the common man.
