Telecom major Bharti Airtel today commenced 3G services in Jammu and Kashmir, starting with the summer capital Srinagar.

"Powered by 160 sites in Srinagar alone, Airtel 3G services will gradually be launched across the state in weeks to come," Chief Executive Officer, Upper North, Mobile service, Shashi Arora told reporters in Srinagar.

He said with the launch of 3G service, customers in Kashmir will now be able to join the three million plus Airtel customers across the country who are already accessing a host of unique services that 3G enables.

Airtel 3G services can deliver services such as fast mobile internet access, Airtel Mobile TV, Video calls, social networking on-the-go, video streaming and multiplayer gaming, he said.

Arora said eight Airtel 3G experience zones have been positioned across all major locations in the city.

"As we extend the promise of Airtel 3G services to Srinagar, we invite our mobile customers in the valley to leverage the power of high speed internet and a host of innovative application capabilities in their mobile devices - anywhere, anytime," he said.

Arora said Airtel believes that its 3G would lead the data and internet revolution in the state.

He said the company has also introduced a first of its kind 'internet usage calculator' available online to help customers analyse their current internet data usage and choose an Airtel 3G plan accordingly.

Airtel became the third private company to launch the 3G service in the valley after Reliance and Aircel.
