Airtel digital TV launches interactive service for farmers

'iKisaan' to provide real time info on crop, seeds and pesticides prices, weather information and localised farming advisory all in Hindi

Direct-to-Home (DTH) company Airtel digital TV on Wednesday announced the launch of interactive service iKisaan designed in Hindi for farmers.

"iKisaan is a pioneering initiative for rural India. With over 60 per cent of our customers coming in from rural areas, applications like these will create a stronger connect with our customers," Sugato Banerji, Airtel digital TV, Bharti Airtel, said in a statement.

iKisaan will provide real time access of crop prices, prevalent agri-input prices of say seeds, pesticides, weather information and localised farming advisory all in Hindi which is specific to their district, the statement said.

The service will be available to all the Airtel digital TV customers at no additional cost for the first month from launch.

With iKissan Airtel Digital has target to reach rural population residing in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand

The service has been developed by Airtel in collaboration with telecom value added service firm handygo.

Airtel digital TV has priced iKissan service at subscription fee of Rs 10 per month.
