Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the Aadhar-based smart cards in Maheswaram mandal near here tomorrow, the first revenue division in the country to use the biometric authentication cards.

"Tomorrow, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the smart card based on Aadhar. It is for the first time in the country that any revenue division has completed work for giving cards under Aadhar. This is the biggest achievement by any state government. We are proud to say that this government has achieved this credit," state Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu told reporters.

He said 11,000 households in the mandal will get the cards which will be useful for availing a number of welfare schemes of the state government.

"11,000 households have been identified and brought under the Aadhar smart card. The biometrics of these families have been captured and these people will be given the cards that will be useful not only for drawing ration but for arogya sri (health insurance scheme), scholarships (for backward class students) and various other schemes launched for the common man," Sridhar Babu said.

The government hopes to distribute the cards in the entire state within six months, he said.

"We have taken data from six lakh citizens in the state.

The biodata, biometrics have been gathered. Within six months, we are hopeful of implementing the aadhar-based smart card in the whole state. We have been doing it in seven districts on pilot basis. In six months, we want to see that whoever has a ration card, it will be replaced by smart card. They can avail the services in a easier way. They can make the government more accountable," he added.
