Assam police's intelligence wing was being modernised and CID personnel would be given advanced training to tackle tech-savvy criminals, Director General of Police Sankar Barua has said.

Intelligence wing was being streamlined with a sophisticated laboratory to keep track of cell phone usage for dubious motive, cyber cafes and Internet crimes while CID personnel would be given advanced training, Barua told reporters.

A spate of recent incidents in the Barak Valley reflected that criminals were increasingly using technology posing a major challenge to the police force, he said.

Barak valley recorded a number of kidnapping cases in the recent past.

Barua laid emphasis on modernization of police and highlighted the measures being adopted by the state government in this respect.

Assam police was now better equipped with updated gadgets and mobility, besides modern arms and ammunition, he said.
