AYJNIHH bags national award for best accessible website

Website received over 46,600 hits since makeover in accessible format

City-based Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH) was conferred with the national award for the best accessible website.

The award was received by Institute Director Prof R Rangasayee yesterday at a function organised by the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

Rangasayee said the website of the institute received over 46,600 hits since its makeover in the accessible format.

"The design of the website consists of features like screen reader, alternate text for the visuals for the Blind, skip to main content and navigation facility, customised text size, descriptive link text, key board support for browsing the portal, explicit form of label association and consistent navigation mechanism of content in English and Hindi," he told PTI.

This is the first time that the Institute under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment received such a unique award of appreciation for implementation of accessible website, Rangasayee said.

He attributed the achievement to the staff members of AYJNIHH and its regional centers.
