Bangalore CCB nabs 83 for video piracy

1,08,361 DVDs and VCDs worth over Rs 90.6 lakh confiscated

As part of its anti-piracy drive, the special squad of the city crime branch police, conducted raids in different parts of the city and nabbed 83 persons, city police commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Tuesday, Mirji said the 83 accused were arrested in the past one week and 61 cases registered against them under the Copyright Act.

During the raids, 1,08,361 DVDs and VCDs worth over Rs 90.6 lakh were confiscated from the accused.

Mirji said a proposal is also under consideration of the state government to bring the Copyright Act under the Goonda Act.

In future, persons who are involved in video priacy will be arrested under the Goonda Act.
