Bangalore to take “quick” measures to increase Aadhaar enrolment

Government to increase number of Aadhaar enrollment centres

GN Bureau | May 14, 2013

IT-city Bangalore seems to be faring poorly in Aadhaar enrolment. With 412 enrolment centres, the city needs to scale up urgently to serve its population.

The enrolment seems to have been crippled by the limited number of stations at the enrolment centres. Government officials, according to a report in The Hindu, are concerned that the project has not been up to scale in the city.

The government will soon take “quick, drastic” measures over the next few weeks to ensure a fair pace of enrolment, the newspaper quoted a senior official involved in the project as saying.

The government will be issuing tenders to attract at least five more contractors adding nearly 388 new enrolment centres. Besides, dedicated centres in the city will now be enabled for fixing appointments online allowing people from all across the city to avail the service at these centres.

“The system of having one kiosk to cater to online appointments in a general centre is creating chaos in the centres. We have received many complaints. That is why we decided to separate the two and set up online appointment-based centres,” the official told the newspaper.
