BSNL on Tuesday launched Internet data centre services in Hyderabad in partnership with Ahmedabad-based Sai Infosystem, and is eying revenue of Rs 15 crore in next one year.

BSNL will offer managed collocation, hosting and cloud services through the IDC located at Telephone Exchange Building at Patancheru here which is built, operated and managed jointly by BSNL and Sai Infosystem, BSNL AP Circle Chief General Manager V Srinivasan and Sai Infosystem Vice President (Data Centre and NGN) R K Iyer told reporters at a joint press conference.

"BSNL IDCs offer a highly secure, scalable and simple to use environment for cloud computing needs of our clients and its commitment towards Small and Medium Enterprise customers in healthcare, education, banking, rural development and other e-governance initiatives will drive significant adoption of cloud computing," Srinivasan said.

"An investment of Rs 40 crore was made towards this IDC and we are expecting business of Rs 15 crore in one year," he said.

Apart from Hyderabad, BSNL has tied up with Sai Infosystem for setting up IDCs at Bangalore (already on stream), Chertala in Kerala and at Kolkata with investments of around Rs 400 crore and is targeting revenue of Rs 75 crore from these four IDCs, Iyer said.

In order to improve signal coverage, BSNL AP Circle will set up 2,000 more towers in the state, with 800 alone in Hyderabad in the next 4-6 months, though the requirement is for 3,000 towers for Hyderabad itself, Srinivasan said.

Reacting to another query, he said BSNL AP Circle has seen net addition of 1.10 lakh connections under the MNP from other cellular networks.
