Centre plans to set up IT Investment Region in Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh is the second most affordable place for IT

GN Bureau | May 14, 2013

The Centre plans to set up an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Visakhapatnam, said Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Dr Killi Kruparani.

Speaking at a daylong workshop on 'Growth of IT-Vizag Region' organised by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) in Visakhapatnam on Monday, the minister also announced that the government also plans to set up two electronic manufacturing clusters, one each in Vizag and Srikakulam.

Speaking on the occasion, state IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that Andhra Pradesh is the second most affordable place for IT after Indonesia. He stressed that the Vizag region had a tremendous talent pool. Lakshmaiah said that the IT firms should now focus on capturing domestic markets, including government organisations, which are pressing ahead with e-governance.

Department of electronics and information technology (DeitY) secretary J Satyanarayana said that we should now focus on setting up electronic manufacturing clusters as foreign companies have established their presence in the Indian market because of which a mind-boggling amount of forex is going out of the country.
