CERT-In joins hands with electronics cos for cyber security

To host another website to offer similar help for electronics, especially mobile phones and tablet PCs

PTI | December 6, 2012

CERT-In, the government's cyber security arm, has partnered various electronic device makers to provide consumers tips on how secure their gadgets against cyber attacks.

Apart from its website 'www.secureyourpc.in', CERT-In will host another website to offer similar help for electronics, especially mobile phones and tablet PCs.

"CERT-In already runs 'Secureyourpc.in'. From January 1, we will host another website 'secureelectronics.in'. We have partnered electronics companies for inserting pamphlets with their devices offering Dos and Don'ts on securing these devices," Computer Emergency Response Team-India (CERT-In) Director General Gulshan Rai told PTI.

These pamphlets will also be hosted on the website and CERT-In will also launch campaigns to promote the initiative through FM radio, he added.

"An increasing number of people are now using mobile phones for using Internet and transactions online. This makes them vulnerable to cyber attacks and they need to secure these devices, just like they would do for their PCs," Symantec VP and MD India Product operations Shantanu Ghosh said.

There has been an increase in incidents involving revealing of personal information such as passwords and credit card details through phishing attacks in the country.

According to Reserve Bank of India and CERT-In, a total number of 1,618, 2,124 and 2,853 phishing incidents were reported to them in the year 2010,2011 and 2012 (till October), respectively.
