CM inaugurates e-District project in Jharkhand

Project to eliminate paper transactions

GN Bureau | September 13, 2011

Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda today inaugurated the e-district project through video conferencing from the JAPIT office with Kanke Block office in Ranchi District. The project is one of the state category mission mode projects (MMPs) taken up under national e-governance plan (NeGP).

The key feature of e-district project is that it is totally driven by software and computer network. Any citizen can walk into a pragya kendra and apply online for necessary service with relevant documents. He will not have to fill up any form on paper. The Pragya Kendra Operator shall help the citizen to apply for online service. Thus application, information and file noting will move seamlessly eliminating all transactions on paper. The entire process of application processing at all levels and approval of a service shall be paperless and happen online through e-district portal.

There are several other advantages of this e-district service. Firstly, the software has been designed in such a way that a superior officer will be able to know the status of all pending applications, i.e. how long an application is lying with a certain officer. Secondly, the applicant will not have to physically visit any office to learn the status of his/her application or with which authority it is pending, which shall be available in the portal itself. Thirdly, the applicant will receive his/her digitally signed certificate directly from the Pragya Kendra.

Initially the service will be available in Kanke Block of Ranchi District. Government of Jharkhand shall extend the facility to other blocks over a period of time. Government of India has also sanctioned the plan for rollout of e-District in the entire state of Jharkhand.

Tata Consultancy Services has developed the application software for the project.
