PTI | November 30, 2010

The administrative building of an Information Technology Park was today inaugurated at Durgapur in Burdwan district by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

After inaugurating the Rs 20 crore building, the Chief Minister said three IT companies have evinced interest in opening shops there.

However, he did not name the companies.

Stating that initially the building would get 600 direct and 400 indirect jobs, Bhattacharjee said though the state was a late starter in the IT race, it was now running alongside Bangalore and Noida.

"We now have all the big names in IT in our state.

Infosys is the last to come here," he said.

Infosys was alloted 50 acres of land at New Town, Rajarhat last week.

Till now, Durgapur was called Steel city, but it would also be called the IT city now, Bhattacharjee said.

The six-storied building with a floor area of 56,142 sq ft was erected on 2.5 acre of land at Gandhimore in Durgapur.
