Decision on Navi Mumbai SEZ split deferred

Navi Mumbai SEZ Pvt Ltd, promoted by Ambani and his associate Anand Jain, has proposed to split its 1,233-hectare SEZ project into five separate tax-free zones including two for IT/ITeS

The government on Tuesday deferred a decision on a request from Mukesh Ambani-promoted Navi Mumbai SEZ for splitting itself into five zones, seeking more details from the developer.

The issues was taken up by the Board of Approval (BoA) headed by Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar at its meeting here. "The issue will be looked into by a committee of officials," Khullar said after the meeting. He said the committee would seek details about the land and other issues.

Navi Mumbai SEZ Pvt Ltd, promoted by Ambani and his associate Anand Jain, has proposed to split its 1,233-hectare SEZ project into five separate tax-free zones. In its proposal, it had requested splitting of its tax-free enclave into five zones -- a light engineering SEZ, two IT/ITES SEZs, a free-trade warehousing zone and a multi-product SEZ.

Meanwhile, the BoA also gave extra time to several special economic zones to execute their projects. As many as 63 tax-free enclaves had requested for more time.

Those who has asked for more time include Reliance Group firms, GMR, Mahindra & Mahindra, Parsavnath and Unitech.
