The IIT council would be hosting a dedicated website complete with information about academics and other developments taking place in the IIT fold.

"The website would be maintained in a fashion by which the students can derive maximum benefits," said an IIT insider after a meeting of the IIT directors here today.

The meeting is also believed to have discussed about a permanent building of the IIT secretariat here and ways to expedite completion of the establishment.

The decision to set up the secretariat was taken earlier as the IIT Council, consisting of all IIT directors and chairman of boards, other eminent academic administrators and scientists, does not even have an office of its own.

The meeting, chaired by Higher Education Secretary, is also believed to have discussed several other administrative issues.

It is also learnt that the T Ramasami committee for designing a national testing scheme is expected to make a presentation to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal soon.

The committee is understood to have prepared a model which seeks to evaluate ability of learners and reveal his latent potential to match emerging opportunities in the education sphere.

A detailed consultation with various stakeholders including the school boards and faculty of elite institutions is also on the cards before finalising the testing scheme.

The testing system, all in all, would match IIT-JEE level.
