It is first such project in the country, Delhi Government has nearly completed digitisation and mapping of all underground and overground assets like telephone lines, water pipes and other public utilities in three dimensional digital format.

Under the project, the government will soon unveil a unique portal comprising images and digital details of all the over ground and underground utilities and it will be made available to 30 departments of the city government.

As the ambitious project is nearing completion, the Delhi Cabinet today approved the draft Delhi Geo-spatial Data Infrastructure (Management, Control, Administration, Security and Safety) Bill, 2011 to make each of the 30 agencies part of the project.

The bill will be tabled in the budget session of the assembly beginning tomorrow.

Under the project, a common and integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) will be made available to the departments to design and implement various projects.

Officials said Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure (DSSDI) project is one of its kind in the entire world in which all the underground utilities in the city are being mapped using state-of-art technology of 'ground probing radars'.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said 30 agencies including local bodies and private agencies rendering services of public utility will be brought under the ambit of the project.

The portal will help in ensuring a better work culture in the Capital city as all records and data will be available on fingertips to effectively implement the schemes and policies resulting in fulfilling aspirations of the people.

The Cabinet also decided to upgrade infrastructure in city schools to implement the Right to Education Act. It also decided to fill all vacant post of teachers in the government schools. Over 3,000 post of teachers are lying vacant in government-run schools in the city.
