Delhiites may soon get information about various Delhi government schemes and services through SMSes.  Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said the government was considering flow of important information to the people through SMSes as part of its e-governance scheme.

Addressing a function in the Capital, Dikshit said use of information technology has resulted in increased accountability, responsiveness and greater transparency and government was working on expanding its use in various areas.

Highlighting government's efforts to improve service delivery, she pointed towards Delhi Citizen Service Delivery Act, which guarantees certain services to the citizens in a time-bound manner.

"The legislation has generated an atmosphere of confidence that the services will be delivered fast within stipulated period without any harassment and hassles," he said. The city Government has brought the services of various departments including transport, food and supplies trade and taxes, NDMC and MCD under the ambit of the Act.

The purpose and object of the Act is to sensitised the public servant towards citizens and to enhance and imbibe a culture to deliver services to the citizens in a time bound manner.

The Government servants who fail to deliver services within a stipulated time-frame are liable to be fined. She said the success of IT projects lies in making government services accessible to common man at his home.

"This also requires availability of services on mobile. This would make flow of crucial information instant and easy," Dikshit said.
