Dikshit for imparting education through interactive classrooms

Stressed on the need to impart education by other means like video cassettes, electronic media and interactive classrooms

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said her government was making "humble efforts" to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act and taking steps to open new schools while stressing on the need to impart education through interactive classrooms.

Presenting awards to 77 outstanding teachers on the ocassion of Teachers' Day, Dikshit said Delhi government schools are being regarded better than the public schools in the city.

"Further, our government schools have also been included in a list of ten top schools in the country. The government has formulated a number of schemes to impart more qualitative and purposeful education," she said.

"Nobody would have even thought ten years back that Delhi schools will attain a pass percentage of over 90 per cent. This change has not taken place in a few months, but it took years together to improve our schooling atmosphere, infrastructure and facilities," the Chief Minister said.

Reiterating her commitment to impart education to all children, she said the city government will not leave any stone unturned in implementing RTE Act. "A number of new schools will be opened and the existing schools will be optimally utilized," she said. The awardees were handed over a medal, a citation certificate, a shawl and a cheque amounting to Rs 10,000.

Dikshit described former President Radhakrishnan, whose birthday is celebrated in the country as Teachers' Day, as a great personality and exhorted teachers to seek inspiration from his life and works.

"The teachers are mainly responsible for character building of students and nation building by way of preparing better citizens of the country. Their contribution in this way is valuable," she said. She also stressed on the need to impart education by other means like video cassettes, electronic media and interactive classrooms.
