GSM industry body COAI on Wednesday said it is "disappointed" by the Rajasthan High Court order, directing telecom operators in the state to remove within two months their towers falling in the vicinity of schools, hospitals and play grounds.

"We are disappointed by the order and will determine the industry's future course of action on the matter once we have the formal order and have studied all the details closely," COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said in a statement.

The industry has always been compliant with norms related to radiation exposure limits and will continue to work actively along with the government to ensure that compliance is maintained, he added.

"...we reiterate here that the EMF emission safety norms prescribed by the Government of India cover all citizens, including children and patients. We are fully compliant with these safety norms," Mathews said.

The division bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice N K Jain Senior held yesterday that radiations emitted from mobile phones and mobile base towers are "hazardous to children and patients", as accepted by the inter-ministerial committee of Central Government, and needs relocation from school, colleges, hospitals and play grounds immediately.
