DP World's Chennai Container Terminal is country's 1st e-depot

Union shipping minister dedicates the terminal

DP World's Chennai Container Terminal has become the "first" terminal in India to offer a host of services like e-accounts through web-based application.

Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan formally dedicated the terminal as India's first e-terminal at a function held here recently, DP World said in a statement issued here.

The release added that features like web-based customer relationship management, web-based accounts and invoices would be available at the click of a mouse.

"At DP World Chennai sustainable business growth through technological innovation is an important aspect of the way we work. With all our technology enhancements and automation initiatives we are constantly working towards improving our customer service; creating the infrastructure and processes that best serve our customers...," DP World Chennai Director and Chief Executive Officer Ennarasu Karunesan said.

DP World is one of the largest marine terminals in the world with 49 terminals across 31 countries. In 2009, DP World handled more than 43.4 million TEU (Twenty foot equivalent container units) across its portfolio from America to Asia, the statement added.
