The IT industry on Friday said the government's efforts to boost data security in the country would give a fillip to business in the long term.
"The recent amendment and notification issued by the government is good for our business. In the long run it is going to boost our business," Cognizant Chief Security Officer Satish Das told reporters on the sidelines of Data Security Council of India (DSCI) Excellence Award.

Minister of State for IT and Communications Sachin Pilot said, "Government will actively support the industry in tackling data security related issues. All concerns will be addressed in timely manner."

In April, the government had come up with notification under section 43 (A) of Information Technology Act and had asked industry to take certain measures on data security related issues.

While industry players had asked for more clarification on it, Das said that it is going to have a positive impact on business as the industry will be able to sign safe harbour agreement with Europeans companies.

TSCI Chief Executive Officer Kamlesh Bajaj said that due to government support council has been able to raise data security awareness in the industry. "IT act has helped us in bringing more players on TSCI board. The IT Act was made after understanding the industry's need to have robust data security practises in place."
