Gurgaon traffic police to use 'third eye' to book violators

Project in collaboration with Nokia

Drivers breaking traffic rules now will not be able to skip from the eyes of Gurgaon police as the force today launched a 'third eye' project wherein 50 constables will be equipped with mobile to click pictures of the violators.

Launching the project in collaboration with mobile company Nokia, Millennium City Welfare Society and software company Denave, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Surjeet Singh Deswal claimed that the cellphones will be used for the first time in Gurgaon in north India to keep watch on traffic rule violators.

For this purpose, Nokia company has given 50 E-5 mobile sets to the police which will be used by the traffic constable on duty for clicking photos of the violators and immediately that picture would land on the server of Gurgaon Police through a software specially designed by Denave company.

The police team deputed at the server will then send challan to the violator's residence, Deswal said, adding soon the number of mobile sets will be increased from 50 to 200 and if needed the number of sets could be increased further.

Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal said traffic constables were also trained in handling mobile cameras to click photos in such a way that the vehicle number plate of the traffic violator was exhibited clearly.

He said challans to 250 violators were issued during the trial period of 15 days.
