Haryana to offer pension through EBT

Haryana will become the first state in the country to directly deposit all kinds of social pensions in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) System by June 2011.

Haryana will become the first state in the country to directly deposit all kinds of social pensions in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) System by June 2011.

This was disclosed in the meeting held under the chairpersonship of Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati here in a release issued here today.

It was informed that the work of disbursement of pension under the Electronics Benefits Scheme had already commenced in 16 districts from the month of April 2011.

Banks like ICICI, UBI, AXIS, OBC Corporation and HDFC were assigned these districts. The other banks would commence EBT disbursement in the remaining districts from June 2011.

Representatives of banks concerned would visit each village to open bank account of the beneficiaries and pensions would be paid directly in the beneficiaries? bank accounts.

Pensions like old age samman bhatta, widow pension, handicapped pension and financial assistance to the destitute children, beneficiaries of Ladli Social Security Scheme, allowances to eunuchs and dwarfs and allowances to the Kashmiri Migrants were disbursed through Social Justice and Empowerment Department.

Gulati said that integration of the bank accounts of the beneficiaries with the website data was very important.

She said that the EBT system would be very effective and facilitate the beneficiaries besides cleaning up the bogus beneficiaries.

She described it as a great initiative which needs cooperation of the banks involved to make it a success.
