The Himachal Pradesh government is exploring ways to replace the mobile towers crowding the hill state's idyllic landscape with the environment friendly "Tower Tube system", Chief minister P K Dhumal today said.

The idea is to decongest the hill tops, Dhumal told a business delegation from telecommunication giant Erricson World and sought its cooperation in introducing the system.

Since the proposed Tower Tube system was environment friendly, having capacity to provide service to large number of mobile users and being operated with solar and wind energy without any air conditioning requirements, it would be self sustaining and not cause any environmental hazards, he said.

Dhumal said that the new system would help in strengthening tourism in the state and provide people eco-friendly internet, WIFI, broadband, 3G and 4G and other services down to village level.
