Idea enrolls one million 3G customer in a month

Company now covers over 400 towns with 3G network across the country

Telecom service provider Idea Cellular today said it has enrolled one million third generation (3G) users within the first month of launch in India.

The company started these operations in nine cities in March this year.

Idea now covers over 400 towns with 3G network across the country, the telecom service provider said in a statement.

"Early trends indicate high uptake of Wireless Broadband data by existing 3G Handheld users," Idea Cellular Chief Marketing Officer Sashi Shankar said.

The company is committed to launch the service in 10 new towns every day for the next one year to extend the experience to 50 per cent of the existing subscriber base with the latest 3G services, it said.

Idea?s 3G services will progressively grow to cover 750 towns by mid 2011, and 4,000 towns by the end of FY12.

"3G services will attend to the high speed digital needs of our consumers, creating opportunities for education, employment, engagement and entertainment, thus empowering consumers and positively impacting their lifestyles," Idea Cellular MD Himanshu Kapania said.

The statement said one million Idea users are now being provided superior quality voice, text and data services.

These include High Speed Internet browsing upto 21.1 Mbps, video calling, mobile TV, Idea application Mall, and many more applications on the 3G platform, it said.

Idea?s 3G services cover 400 towns in nine circles extending from major urban markets, Tier 1 and 2 cities and finally reaching out to the deep hinterlands.

Idea Cellular had launched its 3G Services on 28th March, 2011 in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and since then has been progressively launching 3G services in 6 other circles of UP East, UP West, Maharashtra and Goa, Kerala, Haryana, and Andhra Pradesh.
