Idea expands its 3G services in Himachal Pradesh

Services extended to four more towns- Dharamshala, Mcleodganj, Mandi and Sunder Nagar.

Telecom service provider Idea Cellular on Tuesday announced to extend 3G services to four more towns of Himachal Pradesh -- Dharamshala, Mcleodganj, Mandi and Sunder Nagar.

"Idea subscribers in Dharamshala, Mcleodganj, Mandi and Sunder Nagar will now get an opportunity to experience high-end data services such as Video Conferencing, Idea Mall Application Store, Mobile TV, Video on Demand, and high-speed Internet Browsing," Anish Roy, COO for Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, HP, Idea Cellular said in a statement.

Idea launched 3G services on its network in Himachal Pradesh, starting with the 2 major towns, Shimla and Baddi, in March-end. The company has set target to expand footprint of 3G services in 4,000 towns by end of Financial Year 2011-12. Idea's national 3G footprint now covers over 400 towns and is growing at the rate of 10 towns per day to cover 750 towns by mid-2011, the statement said. The company now provides 3G services are in 9 circles viz MP, Gujarat, HP, UP West, UP East, AP, Kerala, Haryana and Maharashtra and Goa.

Idea said its 3G service users can experience speed up to 21 Mbps on 3G handsets, and higher speed on other devices depending on the device capability.
