IIM-K Director Debashis Chatterjee said the the satellite campus is being set up with the overall objective of supporting the growth and development of business and industry in the region. It will primarily focus on Executive education.

As the only IIM in the country having an Internationally accredited Executive Management Education Programme, the Kochi campus will offer full time and part time programmes targetting at Middle and Senior level executives.

Programmes offered would be both Short Term and Long Term.

Specialised courses for executives in the IT sector with a view to help the executives at the park hone up their management skills was also on the anvil.

The Kochi satellite campus will be initially housed within Kochis Infopark and will focus primarily on executive education both long term and short term, besides, specialized courses for executives of IT sector.

Initially, the Satellite centre will be offering one year executive MBA programme as well as two year part time programs in addition to a large number of short duration Management Development Programmes, the release said.

As the campus is located inside the Infopark, Kochi, it will directly help the executives at the park to hone their management skills thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Indian IT sector and boost the IT sector growth.

Announcing the launch of the Kochi campus, Prof Debashis Chatterjee, said his vision for IIM Kozhikode was integral to the vision of Kerala as an emerging hub for young knowledge workers. IIM Kozhikodes presence in Kochi will help the state spearhead its unique positioning as an investor friendly, liberal and efficient destination for business.

Kerala has a unique capacity for social innovation in empowering women and the underprivileged and in including them in the rising prosperity of the state.

IIM Kozhikode has chosen Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala, in line with the need to create the right environment to facilitate the transformation of Kerala into a business hub and a preferred investment destination. High literacy and e-literacy rates aided by government led projects contribute to employable manpower resource in Kerala, he said.

The Kerala Government was consistently aiming for an IT led growth over the next few years.

The recent NASSCOM survey on 9 leading Indian ITES destinations covering a range of parameters including land costs, power and communication infrastructure ranked the Kochi as the second best ITES destination above Metros like Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The initial facility inside Kochis Infopark envisages commencement of admissions from October 2012.

Started in 1997 with its Postgraduate Programme (PGP), the IIMK is offering widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education. PGP student's intake for 2009 was 309 students i.e. 5 times in 7 years thus making it the fastest growing management school in the country to reach that landmark. This was done keeping the quality of the programme high, as the Institute continued to maintain its sound placement record, ranking among the top 5 institutes in the country.

IIMK pioneered Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) for working executives in India. The Institute is today a leader in Faculty Development Programmes (FDP) and is the major QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) Centre of the All Indian Council of Technical Education, in the field of management education.

A significant step was taken for incubation of a Centre of Excellence jointly with the state government, which is one of its kinds in India, to help the Scheduled Castes/tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication, and personality.

The Institute is all set to inaugurate the Indian Business History Museum, the first of its kind in the country, which aims at promoting entrepreneurship among the youngsters as well as acknowledging the profound contributions of the business houses and other visionaries.
