Jodhpur court issues notice to Datawind

Seeks company's reply on sending notice to two IIT-J prof who filed lawsuit in New York court on alleged Akash I fiasco

A court in Jodhpur on Tuesday issued notice to DataWind, the makers of Aakash, which had entered into a contract with the IIT-Jodhpur to manufacture and supply the low cost tablets.

The ADJ court has sought the company's reply by 24 July, the next date of hearing.

This was in response to a notice by DataWind to two professors of IIT-J - Sandeep Yadav and Anupam Gupta - on filing of a suit in New York court blaming them for the alleged Akash-I fiasco.

The notice by DataWind also followed a notice by the IIT-J to seek damages from the company for its alleged vilification of the institute.

Counsel of IIT-J Sanjeet Purohit said that the institute had filed an anti-suit injunction in the ADJ court seeking the court to restrain the DataWind to file any suit in a foreign court and have also sought damages from the company for its alleged defamatory campaign in media against the IIT-J, blaming it for the failure of the Akash-I project.
