Kaspersky launches mobile security sol; eyes 1 lakh unit sales

Russia-based security software maker Kaspersky today launched its new solutions for mobile handsets and said it aims to sell one lakh units in 2011.

Priced at Rs 599, Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 is aimed at providing security features like data backup, data erase on loss of cellphone and other privacy features for smartphones.

"The smartphone market is growing at a huge pace and so is the attack through malware and viruses. There is a big opportunity in this segment and we are looking at one lakh units being sold this year," Kaspersky Director (Asia Pacific) Corporate Sales Suk Ling Gun told reporters here.

She added the company will target verticals like government projects and educational institutions.

The solution works with most platforms like Symbian and Java, but not with Apple's operating system.

"We are in duscussion with Apple to explore opportunities for providing solutions for iPhones as well," Gun said.

The company has also earmarked marketing budget of USD 4 million for the year 2011.

"The company will invest in educating masses. We have also started advertising on radio and in newspapers and that will also continue," she said.

Kaspersky sells about 1.2 lakh units of computer anti-virus solutons every month and claims to have a market share of about 9-10 per cent.

According to the company, the security sotware market is worth about Rs 1,400 crore growing at over 25 per cent annually.
