Tweets that he prayed for Gandhi’s speedy recovery and return to best of health

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday wished speedy recovery to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has gone abroad for a surgery.

"Have come to know through media about Mrs Sonia Gandhi's surgery. I pray for her speedy recovery and good health," tweeted the BJP leader, who was engaged in a bitter war of words with Gandhi in the past especially during various elections in Gujarat and often raked her foreign origin issue.

During the 2007 assembly elections, the Congress president had accused the Gujarat Chief Minister of being a "Maut ka Saudagur" (merchant of death). As Modi's message appeared on Twitter, the Gujarat Government issued a statement that Modi has conveyed his best wishes to Gandhi.

Modi said he prayed to the almighty for her speedy recovery and return to best of her health, it said. Making a bare announcement, Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters in Parliament House that the 64-year-old Gandhi was recently diagnosed with a medical condition and has been advised surgery. "On the advise of her doctors, she has travelled abroad and she is likely to be away for two-three weeks," he said.
