GN Bureau | October 17, 2012

Madhya Pradesh will soon become all e-district state as the state government is hopeful of implementing the e-district project in all 50 districts by the end of this year.

Works of e-district in the five pilot project districts (Indore, Guna, Gwalior, Sagar and Shivpuri) have been carried out with the cooperation of public service management department.

The work of providing government services electronically under the project was started on July 27, 2012. So far, 52,000 applications have been received electronically, of which 60 per cent have been disposed of.

In view of pilot project’s success, the State Government had sent a proposal to the Union Government for implementing e-district project in all the districts. Estimated cost of the project was Rs 143 crore. The Union Government has accepted this proposal and sanctioned Rs 115 crore to the State Government. Remaining funds will be met from the State’s budget. The State has received Rs 4.50 core as the first installment. These funds have been made available to 45 districts’ e-Governance Societies at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per district. Each society will spend the amount of interest accruing on these funds on operating the scheme.

Objective of the e-district project is to make available Government service to common people easily through electronic medium. Another objective is to ensure automation and electrification of offices of departments in districts. All the procedures will be online under the system. This system will ensure easy and effective delivery of various services through Citizens Facilitation Centres, Public Service Centres, State-wide Area Network, State Data Centre etc. Besides, credibility, accountability and transparency in providing public services will also increase.
