National Crime Records Bureau has evinced interest in a system developed by Rajasthan police which maintains a database of standing warrantees, proclaimed offenders and absconders in the state, with a view to implementing it at the national level.

"NCRB has sought information about our initiative. A detailed report will soon be forwarded to NCRB soon so that it can be incorporated in crime and criminal tracking network and systems at the national level," IPS officer Sharat Kaviraj, who is the brainchild behind the system, told PTI in Jaipur.

The system developed by Rajasthan police gives updated information about standing warrantees (SWs), proclaimed offenders (POs) and absconders with options of name/police station/district/state wise searches and information sharing by public on state police website www.police.rajasthan.gov.in, the SP-State Crime Records Bureau said.

"No such systemised/online information about warrantees, proclaimed offenders and absconders is available anywhere in the country except Rajasthan," Kaviraj said.

The key feature of the initiative is that it enables every police station of the state to get information about the anti-socials who are present in their jurisdiction irrespective of were cases has been lodged against them, he said.

"This system will surely help in reducing the number of standing warrantees, proclaimed offenders and absconder because police is omnipresent and sorted information is with all police stations," he said.

Traditionally, police stations have details of the SWs, POs and absconders only related to the cases lodged with it but after implementation of the new system, police stations now have a report containing a sorted list of the SWs, POs and absconders who are under their jurisdiction.

"It is vital for police stations to know about the people who are the residents of their areas and are offenders/ warrantees in cases lodged with other police stations," Kaviraj said.

After compilation of information of SWs, POs and absconders received from all police stations of the state, the data was digitalised and the online system was introduced last year.

"One can find information about such criminals conveniently with search options and can also share information about any criminal. Whenever any input is shared at the website, a text message instantly goes to the mobile phones of concerning SHO, SP and the informer," the IPS officer said.

"The system also helped in reducing the number of standing warrantees significantly. The current number of SWs, POs and absconder of the state is 55,749 which was approximately 75,000 last year. The number which reduced is important in which our system also played significant role," he claimed.

It was after the Rajasthan's government decision to clear heavy pendency of warrantees and to execute it that the officer introduced the system when he was in crime (investigation) wing in February last year.
