IT firm NIIT Technologies has chosen satellite service operator Hughes Communications India (HCI) to connect police stations in Jharkhand under the crime and criminal tracking network system(CCTNS), according to a communication by HCI today.
"The equipment order value is Rs 1.67 crore with a 4 Mbps recurring bandwidth requirement. The project will link the State and National Crime Records Bureaus, creating a central records database that can be accessed in real-time from any police station across the country," HCI said in a statement.
HCI will provision the network with the assistance of a service provider (engaged centrally by MHA/NCRB).
CCTNS will span all the states and union territories of India and will link 14,000 police stations and 6,000 higher police officers through electronic means across the country. It is a mission mode program under the National e-Governance plan (NeGP) of the Government of India.
