Online registration for Classes 9 and 11 compulsory under UP Board

UP Board's initiatives to eliminate scams, improve results of weak students

GN Bureau | May 6, 2013

Online registration will be mandatory for Classes 9 and 11 under the Uttar Pradesh Board. This initiative aims to curb cases of scams and mismanagement rampant in the state board.

According to a report in the Times of India, a pilot project was launched last year in Meerut, Allahabad and Lucknow. The success of the pilot encouraged the Board to expand the project, explained director, basic education, Vasudev Yadav. Further guidelines regarding the online registration will be dispatched to the district inspector of schools (DIOS), the nodal officer for the project.

Yadav stressed the need for remedial classes for weak students. Officials of the department have decided to put up the names of colleges with less than 45 percent pass rate in classes 9-12 at the DIOS offices. Notices will also be sent to the principals of the associated schools.

Yadav explained, "If schools with poor result fail to improve, strict actions will be taken against the principal and authorities. The students who score below 45% marks in examinations will have to attend remedial classes organised by the schools."

Yadav announced that the results of the high school and intermediate examinations will be declared by June 10.
