Orissa government will request South Korean steel major Posco not to shift its proposed ICT Company, an IT firm registered with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) here.

"We will request Posco to continue with its ICT (information and communication technology) project," Orissa Science and Technology Minister Ramesh Majhi said here today.

The company is planning to shift the project to Delhi-NCR region, he said.

Posco ICT Company had applied for winding up from here though a letter in January, he said, adding that the board of directors of the Korea-based company had taken the decision in this regard.

The Orissa government has decided to make the request after considering that ICT's exit could affect the state's IT sector.

The South Korean steel major had proposed to set up a 12 mtpa (million tonnes per annum) steel mill near Paradip but decided to shift its IT project from the state due to delay in implementation, POSCO sources said.
