The Internet Bus from Google, which started from Chennai some 18 months ago, has evoked tremendous interest, covering more than 600 locations and touching lives of over 10 lakh people across 110 towns in 10 states, a top company official said today.

The first leg of Internet Bus has traversed through Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat and created awareness about the usage of Internet, Srikant Belwadi, Product Manager, Google, told reporters here on the occasion of the bus arriving here on its second leg.

Surveys have indicated that 30 per cent of these visitors have gone online for the first time after visiting the bus, he said, adding that the company aimed at replicating the success in other states also, providing them with a platform to experience the internet.

Belwadi said over the span of time, the company had been improving its products and returned to Tamil Nadu to provide more information and learnings to the people.

In Tamil Nadu, the company has joined hands with NIIT to provide an hour-long free internet training to the visitors to the internet bus, Belwadi said.
