Phonak markets high-performance chipsets for hearing impaired

India's 12-13 per cent are hearing impaired

Swiss hearing aid maker Phonak, has developed and marketed a new high-performance chipset and software to cater to the growing population of hearing impaired globally. "Application of advance technology - named Phonak Spice Generation is the core value proposition of our products and our overall aim is to aid people to hear better," Phonak (India) Limited managing director Sanjay Bagati said here. Phonak, he said, had developed high-tech potential, a new global standard in manufacturing and designing smart high quality hearing aids which enables the user to hear better, understand and absorb signals of different frequencies under all conditions and circumstances. Headquartered at Staefa in Switzerland, Phonak is the global leader in hearing technology and has developed, produced and globally distributed state-of-the-art hearing systems and wireless devices for for last 60 years. It has core markets in western Europe and North America with presence in India, China, Russia and Brazil among 90 countries. Bagati said 12-13 per cent of India's population is hearing impaired as against 10 per cent globally due to high decibel noise, genetic or hereditary factors and serious ailments. To a question, Bagati said Phonak (India)'s sales turnover was Rs 26.5 crore in 2010-11 a 40 per cent growth over previous year. The projection for 2011-12 is Rs 34.5 crore.
