To be done using Electronic total stations (ETS), GPS technology and satellite imagery

Maharashtra Government has opted for Pirangut village in Mulshi taluka of Pune district to start the pilot project of re-survey of land records.

The project would be flagged off by Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on June 2, Principal Secretary (Revenue) Swadheen Kshtriya told PTI.

He said the project would be completed in three months.

"The re-survey would be done in 6000 hectare area of 12 villages using Electronic total stations (ETS), GPS technology and satellite imagery," he informed.

Kshtriya said ETS technology enables accurate measurement of area in the radius of upto 5 km.

"We want to see which of the three technologies are accurate, fastest and costs the least," he added.

Kshtriya said a ground control network will be set up with the help of survey of India. Stones of different shapes and sizes will be placed at 16km, 4km and one km distance. The latitude and longitude of these stones will be fixed through GPS after which further measurement will done with help of ETS.

ETS measurement will be done by the departmental staff while the satellite imagery will be done by private parties free of cost. Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre, Nagpur will be the nodal agency, he added.

He said at present land title records are presumptive and can be challenged in the court. "Re-survey will make the land titles clear. The last survey ended in 1920. The re-survey will start after the pilot project is completed and is slated to take five years," he said.
